Since late last year I have been working in a new style of photography taught by two marvellous photographers Valda Bailey and Doug Chinnery. I mentioned in a previous newsletter that I had decided to try out one of their courses, and once I started I was entranced by the creative possibilities.

Here’s a favourite one of my new style images – I named it The First Casualty

Learning the new techniques in the First Steps to Creativity course was invaluable, but then detaching myself from that, relatively comfortable arena, to explore emotions, thoughts and relevant, expressive imagery was incredibly liberating.

There’s so much to learn and it’s so easy to overlook something that makes a huge difference to progress. The main thing is to explore fearlessly, and I can definitely recommend Valda and Doug’s courses Click here for more information, though they are very booked up, as they are so successful and popular – for good reasons.

Doug and Valda were both so helpful, and so encouraging that at the end of the sessions and having completed my project I felt almost bereft, having no ‘one to ones’ booked in with them.

Now I must forge on by myself and see where this avenue takes me. It’s certainly liberating and enjoyable.

Let me know what you think of some of the images
