Burano is an island off Venice, whose economy is based on fishing and tourism.
Here the houses are painted vividly in a range of sometimes startling colours. Apparently this was to help identify the owner of any boat (painted the same colour) so that if the boat sank, or got into trouble, the rescuers knew where to go with news of any accident. Its a rather sad idea to explain a gloriously colourful island.
This image of the painted houses is available as an acrylic 60cm x 40cm and can be either a mat or glossy finish.
