Just off Saint Mark’s square there’s an area where the gondoliers tie up their boats. I found this a captivating place where the boats bob on the swell of the water in the canal. The pallor and ghostliness of the gondolas in this picture come from a combination of long exposure and fog. It was early on a misty morning, and the pleasing blurring from the motion of the boats was what I aimed to capture
